The Master Cleanse recipe is a pretty simple one. You won't be eating a lot of different foods during whatever period of time you choose to do the cleanse, but it is important that you follow the Master Cleanse directions if you want to get the full benefit of the detoxification effects. So here's the recipe as well as a few tips for following the program.
The two basic parts of the Master Cleanse consist of the lemonade drink that you will be drinking each day, whenever you feel thirsty or hungry; and the salt water flush, which is designed to make sure you are having bowel movements every day. Your shopping list will consist of the following ingredients:
Water - Filtered or Spring Water Lemons (roughly 20 for one week) Maple Syrup Sea Salt Cayenne Pepper
Since you are doing the Master Cleanse to detoxify, it makes sense to choose organic ingredients so try and find organic lemons and maple syrup if possible. You may even be able to find organic cayenne pepper if you try shopping at some place like Whole Foods. Also, it's important to drink really clean water so unless you have a filter on your tap, I would stick with bottled water, preferably filtered, or you can pick up one of the Brita water filter jugs and use that. As for the maple syrup, make sure it is real maple syrup and not some maple-flavored pancake syrup! The latter is filled with high fructose corn syrup, something you do not want to be putting in your system while trying to detox!
Master Cleanse Recipe
To make up the lemonade drink, you'll use the following amounts for a 32oz container (three servings):
24 ounces cold water 3 ounces fresh squeezed lemon juice 3 ounces of maple syrup 1/4 tsp cayenne pepper
You can double or triple this recipe to get more servings if you prefer to make a whole batch for the day. You'll be drinking it whenever you feel the need, so by all means mix a whole batch at once otherwise you will tire very quickly of making one serving at a time.
To make it more palatable, I always add ice to my glass -- and I make the ice from filtered water!
The Salt Water Flush
The sea salt you've bought is for the salt flush. You drink the salt flush mixture in the morning during the Master Cleanse and it consists of 2 tsp sea salt (not iodized salt!) mixed into a quart of water. Drink it quickly because it tastes horrible and make sure that you are close to a bathroom because you will need it very soon!
Aside from the salt flush and the lemonade drink, while you are on the Master Cleanse be sure to also drink plenty of plain water and keep yourself well-hydrated.
